Rocky Interactive Horror Show is the adventure game version of the acclaimed theatrical show and the movie by the same name, but frankly speaking, I enjoyed the game much more than the movie and those few shows that I watched in late night theatres while studying in the States. The game has almost the same setup as in the movie, except in the game you have a choice in the beginning to play either as Brad or Janet. No matter what game character you choose there is not much difference in the game play, except some femme fatal looks and dialogues. The intro explains the fate of one of the two characters, who falls in Dr. Furter's trap while trying to escape the castle and turns into stone by his Medusa machine. Dr. Frank N Furter, who in fact is an alien and a transsexual, has come from the planet of Transylvania and planning to leave Earth in 30 minutes.
The game starts outside Dr. Furter's castle, which in fact is a spaceship, and you have only thirty minutes to enter the castle and assemble the De-Medusa machine by finding its nine parts scattered in different rooms and halls of the castle. Assembling the De-Medusa machine and returning your partner back into his or her normal state is not the only challenge in this game as there are few more quests to accomplish in this game. Other quest includes bumping into red lips to add time in your thirty minutes time limit and finding new cloths to cover your semi-nude form if your clothes are ripped off by one of the crazy characters walking in the castle.
The game features Richard O'Brian as Dr. Furter, whose full-motion video frame pops up in the game time after time to leave hints and clues for the puzzles, which are plenty in numbers. Plus, we have Christopher Lee, the king of British horror films, as the narrator and his video frame also pops up during the game and narrates the story. Visually, the game has excellent background graphics where you move the character either up and down or left and right using the arrow keys on your keyboard. There is no exchange of dialogues of any kind in this game, which I found the weakest part of the game. Though, the music and sound effects are not very good in quality, but at least they are not annoying. Overall, Rocky Interactive Horror Show is quite a nice and entertaining game and in my humble opinion the adventure game fans must not miss it. |
