Isle of the Dead is a cross between 1st-Person Shooter and classic adventure game. The shooter part runs using a simple 3D engine found commonly in early 3D FPS games, for example Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, while the adventure part switches the display to a 1st-Person Perspective view where the player gathers inventory objects, solve puzzles and interact with other game characters using a classic point and click interface.
The story of the game starts after your plane crashes on a jungle island while flying over the Amazon and luckily, you find yourself the only survivor of the crash. On searching the jungle and the open area you discover that the island is full of horrid blood thirsty zombies and vicious wolves ready to tear you apart. To fight back you have a selection of weapons such as knife, pistol, shotgun and axe, which you find and collect upon searching the island.
The game entertains the players with good quality music, but the sound effects are bit inferior and sometime very annoying. While the graphics are average in quality, the animations in cut-scenes are quite good and nicely created. Overall, this is an innovative and a unique action/adventure game, but I seriously doubt that hardcore adventure gamers will dare play this game as the actions are fast-paced and hard to handle by the gray matter only used in solving puzzles. |
